About Us

The Beginning

The Kirk View School, Gaya now affiliated to the Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) was set up in Gaya in 1982, by the founder principal Manjulika Chatterjee as a Montessori based kindergarten. Since then, the school has grown to add primary and secondary levels.

The Founding Director and Founding Principal’s Guiding Light

The founding Director Mr. Debrabrata Chatterjee believed that holistic education laid the foundation to our future. It was with this vision that he founded the Kirk View Kindergarten in 1982. Mrs Manjulika Chatterjee, founding principal of Kirk View Kindergarten, had 37 years of experience dealing with pre-schoolers and in the setting up and running a school. She had worked as a teacher in Msingi Bora Kindergarten, Nairobi Kenya from 1976 to 1981, before she returned to India to set up Kirk View Kindergarten. She was trained in Montessori methods under Professor Justin – the personal representative of Maria Montessori in Kolkata in 1974.

Ranu Banerjee

Chairperson, Kirk View Foundation

All great ideas begin with a commitment to the future. Late Mr. Debrabrata Chatterjee believed that holistic education laid the foundation to our future. It was with this vision that he founded the Kirk View Kindergarten in 1981. He also believed that education, besides gaining knowledge, must also imbibe ethical and moral values in life. 2017 was an important year for the Kirk View Trust, as The Kirk View School was awarded Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations affiliation. This move focused on preparing children in Gaya to meet the challenges of the modern world. Education, we believe, should be child centered. The focus of the school will continue be on needs of the children, freedom to experiment with new ideas and practices, trust and fair play, diversity and plurality, striving for excellence. The school works to give students an edge over their counterparts in higher studies. Children have access to a third language (from Class V to Class VIII), art, socially useful productive work and community service, physical education and moral and spiritual education and socially useful productive work and community service. ‘A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning’ (Brad Henry). Experienced teachers skilled in guiding children at the pre primary, primary and senior school level are part of the team. The focus is on using interactive method of teaching with the teacher being more a facilitator rather than an instructor. The aim of the school continues to be to provide quality teaching supported by a spirited environment which encourages students to ask questions, debate and discuss freely with an open mind, thereby helping them build confidence in their own abilities. This will enable independent thinking and learning. In today’s competitive world, the team at Kirk View School builds on its knowledge to give the children of Gaya a completely new experience.

Message from The Principal

Prabuddha Chatterjee

This is a very exciting time for The Kirk View School. In 2020, the second batch of Class X students appeared for the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). The Kirk View School is the only CISCE affiliated school in the Magadh region that consists of Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Arwal). This national level, private, Board of School education in India conducts the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education a (ICSE) and the Indian School examinations for Class X and Class XII respectively. Established in 1958 the ICSE exams are internationally recognized due to the reputed United Kingdom-inspired syllabus (by the Cambridge University). This board has several premium advantages – like being the only Internationally-apt syllabus board in India. In 2020 The Kirk View School will be able to introduce a Commerce Stream in Class IX, alongside the Science stream. This will help children who aspire to be in the financial world to focus on commerce two years ahead of their choice of subjects for Class IX. The functional Eco Club at the school is now managed and run by students, who run a ‘Say: No to plastic’ campaign, advocate for waste segregation and monitor on campus composting activities. Indeed, students of The Kirk View School are walking the path of the founders and are growing to be models of respected citizens as envisioned by the CISCE!
